eMarketer says Millenials (aka Generation C) “spreads the word quickly on things it likes and enjoys user-generated content”. Very cool.

Meanwhile Matt Webb continues to spread the word in the Northern Hemisphere. Did you know he first came across the term in that Idealog article?

And back here in NewZillund, an insurance company of all things has come out with an offering targeted towards Generation C. That is innovative!

From the press release:

The Pinnacle Life website (https://www.pinnaclelife.co.nz) and the associated ‘Life Insurance Blog’ (http://blog.pinnaclelife.co.nz) are the first NZ life insurance offerings that specifically target the Internet-savvy ‘Generation C’ and the estimated 1.3 million New Zealanders who now buy online (source: Nielsen NetRatings).

Fascinating! A blog about insurance. I’m going to read that just to see what they come up with!

Generation DIY?

I found this when fiddling around with our Wikipedia entry on Generation C. Turns out there’s yet another label - this one’s quite interesting:

“not an age demographic, but a mindset of creative people who take advantage of new technical tools to create and publicize their own content.”

But is Gen C about age? Or is it just that people born into this technological context will just adopt the tools of creation and publicity more readily?

This is a blog post about a blog post that references a mainstream news story about .. blogging. Tired yet? If not, you’re probably Gen C or adopted C. Or a geek!

The authors of the blog (and the book) Communities Dominate Brands say the C in Generation C stands for community. Is this true?

We reckon it’s one of a number of possible C’s … but it doesn’t really strike to the heart of C-dom. In his original Idealog article, Jake said he reckoned the driver behind all the other Cs - connection, community, cellphones, creativity, choice - was control.

What do you reckon?  Does it even matter? Does a generation need a label? Please share.

www.threadless.com

C says:

Threadless is an ongoing t-shirt design competition which allows its users to submit designs for rating by the community, the highest raters get their designs printed as well as winning prize money. You can also get cool stuff for being an active member of the community: if you take a photo of yourself in a shirt that you bought from threadless and submit it you earn points which translate into store credit. Go ahead and jump over to threadless and start scoring peoples submissions!

Things are going mad at Looksy headquarters, and one dilemma we’re facing is: start blogging, even though the blog skin doesn’t look quite right? Or wait until it’s perfect before we start using our voice.

Seems like the Gen C thing to do is get talking! Let the design stuff sort itself out in due course. This was of course spurred by this piece of feedback from Christchurch:

Hey!
Going to your blog proved fruitless and does nothing to the ‘digital native’ label. Sort your shit out and we in ChCh NZ might join your co-creation Gen-C project!
Ka kite!

Hmmm. Thanks for sharing!
