Generation DIY?

I found this when fiddling around with our Wikipedia entry on Generation C. Turns out there’s yet another label - this one’s quite interesting:

“not an age demographic, but a mindset of creative people who take advantage of new technical tools to create and publicize their own content.”

But is Gen C about age? Or is it just that people born into this technological context will just adopt the tools of creation and publicity more readily?

I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned the word “Consumer” yet.

I like the C-concept and I don’t think Gen C is constrained by age at all. For example, I’m 42 and have been heavily involved with establishing and managing virtual communities for the last 5 years. There are even bloggers in their 70s and 80s on YouTube now.

Gen C is about a different mindset that grasps the opportunity arising from the peer production of creative content.

    Hi Paul!

Of course, consumer was one of the really obvious ones! My bad, I forgot. When we asked some possible Gen C-ers last year what they thought the C stood for, consumer was one of the most popular ones (from memory) - but sort of said in an ironic, helpless way, ie “I’m a consumer but I don’t want to be just a consumer”

Good comments on age vs attitude. Thanks!
